L/O: To explore the use of setting and colour in films
Setting
1. A director may choose a isolated house in a rural location for a horror film as it allows there to be no interruptions with the plot from an outside world and it has the characters alone in an isolated location where they cannot seek help from anyone but themselves.
2. A large city for an action film works as it gives the protagonist a motive to "Save the city" and allows for multiple side characters to appear.
3. A small seaside town for a romantic comedy my be chosen as it offers potential to give greater depth to the characters and place. This allows for an audience to know most people who are important on the town and see how they watch as at the main 2 people grow. A beach can also be seen as good location for a romance as it allows for multiple different events to happen like relaxing on the beach, going in the water or eating on a table with a view looking on at a nice diner.
4. A range of different countries for an action adventure film works because it shows the scale of the events and allows for a journey to take place.
5. A large modern science lab for a science-fiction film may be chosen as it sets the scene and allows for the movie to stay on plot inside the lab.
Colour
1. Blue and red for a superhero costume may be chosen as they are bright and recognisable colours helping show the character as an icon and people also can associate those colours with superheroes such as Superman or Ironman.
2. A black suit for a Villain can be used as it portrays a serious tone and quite frequently a movie portrays the protagonist and antagonist as being "the light vs the darkness" making th protagonist be the light to banish all dark.
3. Bright colours for a comedy film help set the atmosphere as you don't want to watch a comedy film thinking everyone is about to attend a funeral you would rather be put in a bright setting which gives of a calm joyful atmosphere.
Film:
I am Legend - The setting shows an abandoned city with symbols on the walls of buildings as their walls crumble. The brown/orange sky fills the empty space giving of an almost apocalyptic feel and blends in with the buildings.
28 Days Later - The colours red and black are used to set a dark theme with buildings from London being black and a blank red in the background. The setting is London.
Raiders of the Lost Ark - The colours are of a sandy brown with a setting of what seems like a desert from the hieroglyphs on the wall and the sun rise on a flat surface.
A good start Zack
